KNIGHTHOOD 101: A Guide for a Better Knight Build
V. 1.01 by the prof

I started as a confused Knight in the absence of a sound guide to refer from, so I started experimenting in building what I thought was the best Knight there is. Unlike when I started with my Blade, there was Master Sprongky’s Crazy Build Guide (he is not crazy btw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) and Maxwerewolfs Guide on ASPD, Crits & Evasion. Honestly, to date, I have not succeeded yet in developing the perfect build for a Knight. Why? Because there is none! Awts! NONE! (emphatic tone!) Sowee. Yes, the perfect build is a MYTH. However, before you sell that Knight of yours or forego your ambition of becoming one, read along. The good news is: THERE ARE IDEAL BUILDS THAT WORK WELL EITHER IN PvM or PvP or BOTH.


PRELIMINARIES & DISCLAIMERS

1. Let me begin by acknowledging that I will not be speaking on the POV's of Masters like Sprongky, Ranma1/2 & Maxwerewolf, but rather on the POV of a Professor. Fair? Why? My intention is to help and guide nobies : those MERCS who are considering knighthood, and those New Bred of Knights. Seasoned Knights may as well learn and benefit from this. I will be offering my POV from (1) my own experiences, (2) insights from forums I read here and elsewhere, (3) observations at GW’s and (4) observing other Knights in action while BH or mobbing. Again, the ultimate aim is to give guidance and advice not DICTUM. Experts’ opinions and comments are most welcome and they shall eventually be incorporated in this guide on future edits. Credits will be given to where it is due. Should my memory fails me, correct me please.

2. As a rule of thumb, this is not a guide on which equipment to use –I leave that to your preference. Although from time to time I will recommend which accessories to use to pump the weak stats. BTW, there are a lot of discussions about that in this forum.

3. This is not also a Guide on Knight’s Skills, though IMO, your build has an effect on those skills. A separate treatment on that is in order.

4. Also, this is not a guide on how to become a Knight, which is changing job from Merc to Knight. Although an introductory note is highlighted below.

5. Lastly, there is an on-going thread here on Consolidating Knight’s Builds Inquiries started by master Sprongky which is useful when you are asking a particular issue about your build, though for nobies it may be a little bit confusing because of the various differing opinions and debates on certain issues. What I proffer here is an attempt to organize those differing opinions and give you a one click start.

Okey. Having said that; let me introduce you to KNIGHTHOOD 101 class:


FROM MERC TO KNIGHT

So, you want to become a Knight? Early on, when you entered the Mercenary life, you should have decided which path you want to take as a Knight. PvP for fame or to prove your supremacy over other classes & jobs? BH to prove you are mightier than any giant in Darkon or get rich from doing it? Faster leveling? Loot CW and subdue him? You want to be a Swordsman? Or an AxEman like Freddy Kruger? Hark, hark! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Take your pick.

Note that STATS are reset only on the first job change, i.e., from Vagrant to Merc. But from Merc to Knight, sowee. That is why early on, you need to decide where those 2 points each level should go. BTW, restat is expensive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Read on.


KNIGHT BUILD BASICS: DESCRIPTIONS & PRESCRIPTIONS

For this purpose, the focus will be on Level 60 Knight BARE (meaning, no equipment ok). Beyond that, it is your choice and I leave that to you. Below are common or generic builds which I painfully described; giving you the PROS & CONS, and then added my prescriptions or recommendations, including which accessories to use to increase stats required. Before you convulsed in a violent reaction, please read again my preliminaries and disclaimers before proceeding. Format for stats, same with pressing H IG, that is (STR-STA-DEX-INT)

1. Smart Knight: (55-55-53-15) (Best both PvP & PvM). Like Sir Gallahad of the Knights of Round Table, hmm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Yup! IMO, this is the most versatile among the builds; effective anywhere, anytime. Whether you prefer normal attack or skills, this one is perfect. Coming with a build like this gives you the leeway to equip the right item at a given time. Thus in a duel, depending on your adversary, you may put weight on the stat required by putting on accessories. I suggest that you prepare a stat calculations for the effect changes. Hence in your inventory, you might want to stock all those necessary add-on accessories and equipment. This is the less popular build so far. IMO & observation IG, there a VERY FEW Smart Knights out there; for most are either STR or STA types. Highly recommended for the noobs (IMO, safest build) and new breed of Knights.

2. STA Knight: (15-133-15-15) (Best for PvP, BH & CW) Makowwwwnat ka! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) Yup. That is how you are envied upon. You are a tank. Your adversary could not simply wield any weapon against you. You can literally stand there in the middle of the PvP Arena and not budge. And one by one, though slowly, your opponents are sent back to lodelight. Even a giant will grow weary during your BH expedition. However, with this lopsided build, you need to upgrade your weapons up to +10 if you can, that would mean 4 to 8 sets of SPRO paffs, to effect greater damage on your opponents and a set of mightier will augment your damage as well. Also, should you pierce your armor, have those precious lightning & thunder cards on hand for added attack rate. Pumping your dex, either you rely on a pair of Arek+5 or Dexions or a buff from an RM With mastered Haste, GT and Cannonball that 15 dex will be pumped to 82% ASPD. In short, with this build , on the one hand, you can’t be killed easily, on the other hand, you inflict little damage slowly. This build seems to be the most popular choice. Recommended for those who don't want to visit the lodelight more often. Also, with this build, you will be relying more on your offensive skills so carry with you tons of FP potions all the time ok.

3. STR Knight: (133-15-15-15) (Best for leveling, BH & CW, sucks in PvP). The most powerful build in terms of damage inflicted to opponent though. A few stroke of your sword will send those mobs flying in the air. However, because you are lacking in dex and sta, that would mean more misses, less block and one crit can send you back to lodelight. So, to compensate, pierce your suit and be ready with your mountain (+4%)/earthquake (+7%) cards for added DEF or magma (+4%)/volcano (+7%) cards for added HP. Remember they add percentages, so they are worth it! Plug earrings are useful too to compensate for the low def and arek/dexion rings for dex. Also, an RM alongside during BH or CW with mastered Haste, GT & cannonball for added ASPD -same with STA Knight; full buff would mean 82% ASPD on your 15 DEX. This build can cause great damage using normal attacks alone although misses may be frequent. Skills usage is recommended.

4. DEX Knight: (15-15-133-15). (Best for leveling & BH! PvP –dunno. Ask a Blade.) Swift! Yup, they are! High hit, evasion and block rates. If you are axe wielding type, less misses and higher crits. The heaped evasion and block rates will compensate for your low STA & DEF. Mobs can’t easily hit you and POSSIBLY (emphatic on that), you are able to dodge your opponents blow at PvP whether short or long range attacks. Axe is most useful and upgrade it as high as you can for higher damage. Plugs, Stams & Gores are most useful to compensate for your lack of STA & DEF. This build is actually a Blade clad in Knight's armours. This build is normal attack dependent. So, if you want to be an assassin like a Blade -this is for you.

5. Hybrid SS Knight: (64-64-15-15). (Best ANYWHERE & ANYTIME -my first choice!). Equal stats for STR & STA. Huh! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) The endless debate on STR vs STA ends here at last –for this is the compromise. It was popularly opined that a Perfect Knight’s Build is a balance of these. While most argues putting more weight on the other. End the debate; put equal stats. The advantage, you inflict more damage and you can withstand oncoming hits longer -MALAKAS at MAKOWNAT KA PAFFS! Disadvantage, slower hits therefore, more misses. If you are a swordsman, then this is for you. To augment your dex, a pair of arek & dexions will do. Recorn set come in handy with the added 20% ASPD. Upgraded weapons up to +10 -you rock dude!

6. Hybrid SD Knight: (15-64-64-15) (Best for PvP, fair at PvM). Equal STATS for STA & DEX. Meaning you are ROBUST yet you are FAST. Someone said that the world is conquered by the STRONG & the SWIFT. Well, if you want the excitement of the PvP arena like a gladiator and stand against your opponent like Maximus or Achilles, then this is the right build for you. STR can easily be compensated with upgraded weapons and pierced suits with thunder (+4%) or lightning (+7%) cards for added attack rate. Hits fast and rarely misses, however damage is small, but may be augmented with a pair of demol, mighteer or vigor rings. You can take the hit at PvP with this build anyday!

7. Hybrid DS Knight: (64-15-64-15) (Best for leveling but sucks in PvP). Equal STATS for STR & DEX. If you don’t get too excited in the arena and enjoy solo ventures, this is for you. You kill fast and hard thus you level faster. Disadvantage: you get to visit lodelight more often during BH. Don't worry, STA can easily be compensated with Gores, Stam & Plugs. You might want to pierce your suit with mountain(+4%)/earthquake (+7%) cards for added DEF or magma (+4%)/volcano (+7%) cards for added HP.

8. Foolish Knight: (15-15-15-133). (Best at PvP as CHEERLEADER or at PvM as LOOTER-BOY! WATER BOY:lol: ) All STATS to INT. Yayy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) This is not only suicide but thinking with your head on the sand. This is where the irony of life comes into play, the intelligent are sometimes the foolish. Intelligence is not rightfully equated with wisdom, okey !(emphatic tone again). Here, more INT means utter foolishness. Awts! You might want to be converted and be born-again into a MAGE. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) Hang-out with Lurif at Darkon and give advises to other Knights about what not to do like not following your steps. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Got it?

There you go, another guide from the Prof. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If I made sense, then I help other Knights or Knights would be. If not, then unfortunate for them who were misled or mis-informed. TAKE YOUR PICK -A BUILD THAT SUITS YOUR PLAYING STYLE -as Master Sprongky would often say. I invite the experienced Knights to get out of their castle and be heard here.

my knight was SS hybrid... nd yan ang pinagsisiksikan ko n tinatabuy ni ranma... not good for numerous lures but in pvp,bh, cw are very effective....
mahirap maglure ng marami kc dme sawsaw at masasakop mo buong spot unfair with otehr players... tama n ung 3-5 monster lures... i think its the best build... how bout u guys what du u think is the best

your build and experiences in PvP, BH & CW are worth considering, i hope you can post your build here.
well, in deference to Master Ranma1/2, his POV has also its merits, we cannot discount that. however, IMO, playing styles and equipment preferences are also imporatnt variable factors that needed to be considered when creating your IDEAL BUILD.

Master Ranma1/2, with respect, may I suggest that remarks uncalled for, like this, be reserved elsewhere. differing POV's are welcome however, the former are discouraged. BTW, just read your guide last night master (i should have read that before hand before I made this post for there are lots of good stuff there) -cheers to that.

i reach point that my stam str was 1:1... but with stat - bonus of equips? my str was 150+ nd my stam was 110+ up....
my hp was not more more than 9k at lvl 95... offcoure im vulnerable with pure str or int str ASURA from BP.... but my damage was an advantage n fighting other nd with my same class...

some how its not that hard to lvl coz i onli lure 3-5 then 5 lvl gaps.... nd i have suport + elemental upgrades.... i can have star candy.... i onli use redpill... nd i have guard.... i think that helps a lot...

i have reasons why i choose this build:

1. Some said that knight is just for def not offense
2. population is getting heavy. its hard to occupy an area coz it really unfair to have a 7-10 lure at a time.... someone will SAWSAW nd some will get angry with u... thats y i dont put a lot of stam coz i will not lure that way...



And in CW.... u will not die n CW if ur HP is 7K +... unless u will not take a pots nd u wil be hit by his laser...anyone will die on the laser of CW.... but commonly ... u will position ur self under... nd only the CW stomp will damage u whenever ur below him... if ur 75-80 nd ur hp is 7k without any bonus.. .CW will damage u 3-6k... u can take a pills + starcandy b4 cw will atack again.... if u pots fast u can survive CW....
CW Hp is 62m...

but thats what ive experienced in v6... i dunno in v7 theres no cw ryt now

it is an excellent build (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) well, as they say: you win some, lose some. the genius of the game is that no class can really 'OUTCLASS' the other. the korean programmers had ying-yang in mind, correct me plz. take the elements cycle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) with same class and the right equips, well am hands down dude (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

agree. elemental upgrades are BEST (emphatic) when levelling and BH. the additional damage of empowered elemental weapons is HUGE my fren! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

like you, i disagree with most of them. a good defense is always the BEST offensive thereis. if they can't inflict damage easily on you, then you can whack them better although slower, but with your boosted STR, you deal greater damage too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
